The increase in total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) concentrations is correlated with increases cyanobacterial bloom biomass. Standard methods for the measurement of TKN are tedious, costly, time-consuming and involve use hazardous catalysts, such as mercury, high temperatures significant amounts toxic acids bases. Since plays a pivotal role influencing algal blooms, there an urgent need to develop simpler, safer more accurate determination TKN. simplified method (s-TKN™) developed by Hach® offers several advantages over traditional method, including eliminating requiring low sample reagent volumes being cost-efficient user-friendly. This communication presents preliminary results comparing efficacy s-TKN™ standard using commonly used primary standards waste, estuarine lake water matrices.
